How the Environment affected the development of culture in early Mesopotamia

For social studies, all the grade sevens in my class made their own maps of early Mesopotamia. The purpose of this map was to have an  understanding of how the environment affected the culture and society of early Mesopotamians, and how new discoveries changed them.  We learned how they evolved overtime, and how much they’ve changed throughout the years.

One way that made a big impact on the early Mesopotamians was that they had many areas that they traded in. This affected their culture because it allowed them to have access to many resources that were more uncommon in their area. For example; if a  society lived in an area where there were nearby mountains, then they would be able to mine there, and trade in the minerals that they would find for other goods that weren’t accessible to them.

Farming was another way that affected Mesopotamia. The discovery of farming changed the way Mesopotamians lived because instead of traveling from one place to another to find food, they can grow their own food with this method. This technique allowed them to be stable with the amount of food they had and they were able to have enough food for emergencies. This had made a big impact in early Mesopotamia because it saved them a lot of time and work and without farming, life would be much  more challenging.

As life slowly began to change with more advanced technology, boats were discovered, adding more simplicity to life. Boats allowed people to travel over seas and it also made trading with other cultures easier. This made traveling and trading more accessible and this is a discovery that we still use today.

Early Mesopotamians found many ways to simplify their life, and their discoveries slowly change their culture. Making this map helped me understand how early Mesopotamians lived and how much their culture had changed with all of their new discoveries.
